The DDJ 1000 is especially close to Pioneers CDJ/DJM layout, of course, a laptop is still needed as the controller is not a standalone unit. The design and layout are inspired by Pioneers DJM mixer and also comes with two sets of hardware effects which are normally found in club and professional setups. Pioneer has made the DDJ 1000 a 4 channel mixer with 4 deck capability, which means 4 tracks can be controlled individually at any one time and the option to control external devices such as turntables or MIDI devices is available via the software. This is something that will take some time to master but once learnt, it can be a really cool and creative feature. The looping controls are similar to what is found on the CDJs, you will find a loop in and loop out buttons located above the jog wheels, these are used to create your loop manually and create loops that the software will continue to play over and over again, with software nowadays this process is even easier all that’s needed is to specify a start time and a duration in bars, beats or measures and the software will do the rest for you. They have a spongy feel to touch and are extremely responsive and durable, which will help when using the keyboard pad modes. To the right-hand side of the jog wheels, you can see beautiful long pitch faders, these feel both smooth and precise, making a dramatic difference when beatmatching by ear which we believe is fundamental to DJing – A BIG plus from us.īelow the Jog wheels, we have 8 coloured performance pads per deck with 8 pad modes available: Hot cues, Sampler, Keyboard, Beat Jump, Key Shift, Beat Loop, Pad FX 1, Pad FX 2, some of these options such as the Keyboard, Beat-loop, Key shift and Pad FX2 are available via the Shift button.Īlthough slightly smaller than the pads found on other Pioneer models such as the DDJ RZ and the DDJ RZX. This makes it easier when in the mix, not having to look up at the laptop and being able to adjust on the fly can really enhance your mixing abilities.įor More Controllers With Screens Click Here!Ī track selector knob can be found which gives you access to your library and allows you to select tracks without having to even look at the laptop, this really helps for DJing on the fly.Ī sync button is provided which allows you to manipulate the track in a multitude of ways without the track going out of time or phrase, a deck select button is available if any external devices are connected along with pad mode, and voice and sound FX All of the buttons, knobs and controls are of high quality and feel great to use in the mix. The displays located in the centre of the jog wheels display an array of information such as the track BPM, track time, album art, waveforms, hot cues, playback position and loops some of which are customisable e.g the track time which can be viewed from left to right or a more circular clock form or the colour of the waveforms. Now its time to talk about the stunning LCD displays found in the centre of the jog wheels, a significant upgrade from previous models they have released rivalling other brands that were maybe just edging Pioneer in this department. They are large, solid and super responsive, a jog adjust knob is also available to adjust the weight and resistance for a more free feel or a more heavy and tighter feel. These jog wheels feel as though they have literally been taken from the CDJ-2000NXS2 and put straight on to the DDJ-1000. We prefer mechanical jog wheels which require slight force to activate to the touch-sensitive jog wheels which you can sometimes accidentally activate as they only require a touch. The jog wheels are mechanical and pressure-activated rather than being touch-capacitive like the majority of controllers on the market. Although the device is made from plastic, it doesn’t have a flimsy feel at all, it feels both solid and durable. The device has an all-plastic chassis and weighs in at 6kg, making the device light and perfect for the mobile DJ. Taking inspiration from their professional industry-standard Nexus range, both the construction down to the controls and buttons are high in standard and can be compared to Pioneers higher-end equipment. Only compatible with Rekordbox, it would really be a hard DJ Controller to beat if it was compatible with other software like Serato or Traktor. It doesn’t offer stand-alone capabilities, which means dragging your laptop to every event.
